Proceeds from Indiana’s second oldest HIV/AIDS fundraising event benefit the Direct Emergency Financial Assistance  (DEFA) programs affiliated with AIDServe Indiana throughout the state.

These programs provide HIV-impacted individuals the necessities of life as they are coping with maintaining their health, as well as dealing with unexpected cash flow emergencies.  The money provided for short-term relief can assist with food, clothing, medicines, utilities, and even physician’s services.

The following figures represent DEFA payments made (by Regions) to Hoosiers around the state in 1997:  Bloomington - $12,022.57.  Evansville - $9,557.50,  Fort Wayne - $8,635.94,  Gary - $14,507.45,  Indianapolis - $19,542.70.  Jeffersonville - $5,230.38.  Lafayette - $3,759.85.  Muncie - $4,650.20,  Richmond - $6,587.86,  South Bend - $11,773.06, and Terre Haute - $3,769.78.

Since the initial function in 1984, the event has sought to meet a wide range of goals for both AIDServe Indiana and the HIV/AIDS infected/affected Hoosiers it serves.  This years’ theme: "Garage Party XV (GPXV): Fifteen Years of Caring and Sharing", reflects this heritage. Major GPXV corporate sponsors include:  Hiram Walker & Sons, Landmark Enterprises-Miller Brewing Company, STATSCRIPT Pharmacy, Indianapolis Monthly,  and Travel Time, Inc.

Acclaimed Disc Jockey, Andy Austin, will provide the music for the evening’s dancing extravaganza, along with service from bartenders out of the hottest bars in Indiana and surrounding states, dancers from Indy, Chicago, Dayton, and Atlanta, and innovative displays highlighting the latest in HIV/AIDS education and prevention procedures.
